The Flood – “When the Levee Broke”

Jake Morrison had thirty minutes. The emergency sirens wailed across the valley as the river levee finally gave way to three days of relentless rain. Jake’s grandfather’s 1952 Remington 870—his most prized possession—sat locked in the gun safe, along with his entire collection.

But Jake had prepared for the worst. Every firearm was wrapped in a Sack-Ups protective sleeve, a habit his grandfather insisted on. “Cotton breathes, Jake. Synthetics trap moisture, but cotton wicks it away,” he’d always said.

As muddy water rose fast, Jake could only grab a few essentials and evacuate. By the time he returned, the house was a ruin and the safe had been submerged for days. Jake’s heart sank as he opened it, expecting the worst.

Instead, he found each firearm clean and rust-free inside its Sack-Ups sleeve. The unique cotton blend had wicked away the moisture, and the tight weave kept out mud and debris. Even the Remington, with all its history, was untouched—ready for another season.
